Rufus Pollock at CopyCamp 2016

Dr. Pollock is the founder of Open Knowledge and advises on open data to several governments. He is also an associate of the Centre for Information and Intellectual Property Law at Cambridge, Shuttleworth Foundation Fellow and Ashoka Fellow.

Ana Ramalho at CopyCamp 2016

New rights for publishers are among EC proposals for the copyright reform. On October 28th, at CopyCamp Ana Ramalho will tell us whether it is a bone to throw, in particular in the light of such EU principles as subsidiarity and proportionality. Dr. Ramalho is currently an assistant professor at Universiteit Maastricht. She has previously studied at Lisbon, Munich and Amsterdam.

On Thursday, October 27th we plan a special session at CopyCamp about author’s remuneration. Alicja Peszkowska will talk there about Creative Commons licenses and how they affect artist’s (business) success. Alicja is a community builder dealing with the topic of new technologies & social change. CopyCamp 2014: post-conference publication online

Each year artists and producers, European Parliament members, Pirates, collecting societies, librarians and lawyers, scientists, politicians and educators from all over the world meet in Warsaw to participate in CopyCamp, the biggest European conference on the impact of copyright on the information society. All parties interested in the debate on the current shape of the copyright system discuss the future of law regulating the circulation of cultural goods on the Internet and its influence on society, science, education and art. In 2014 special attention was paid to the perspective of the Visegrad Group countries.

The post-conference publication is a subjective selection of some of the most interesting presentations given at the third edition of the CopyCamp conference.

Open Call for CopyCamp 2014

We are pleased to have launched an Open Call for speakers at the International CopyCamp Conference 2014. This year we will focus on the social impacts of copyright. CopyCamp will take place on November 6-7 in Warsaw.

If you are interested in the subject of copyright and would like to express their opinion, submit a presentation proposal by the 15th of June.

To take part in the conference as a speaker, please submit your presentation summary of max. 1800 characters via speaker registration form. In order to simply attend the conference, please sign up using participant registration form.

Submitting your proposal, please choose one of the following thematic tracks:

  • How to Be Paid?
  • Copyright and Education
  • Technology and Innovation

The text of the TTIP will not be published

A consultative meeting concerning the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership agreement between the European Union and the United States (TTIP) has recently taken place in the polish Ministry of Economy.

Representatives of the Modern Poland Foundation) participated in this meeting as well in the hope that the Ministry of Economy, in response to our request for public information, would present related documents. Other participants of this meeting were guests from the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Ministry of Administration and Digitization and representatives of the European Commission in Warsaw. Such representation of the authorities indicates how great importance they attach to this matter. However, this meeting has not resulted in any specific information.

Google Book Project & fair use issue

Ruling in Google Books Library case was announced last week by Judge Denny Chin.

The decision referrers to the litigation between Authors Guild and Google which has been still ongoing despite the settlement concluded between Google and APP last year. The main issue to examine after rendering the case by the Court of Appeals to the District Court for the Southern District of New York, was whether Google’s Project could fit into fair use frames.
